Re: Martin Crowe
Interesting response. I know a couple of other posters watched coverage of Jonah Lomu's funeral. Those same posters like their cricket too, so I thought perhaps they might have an interest in a service to remember Martin Crowe.

Re: Martin Crowe
He was a great cricketer and a top bloke as I posted earlier, but a running commentary on his funeral is taking things to a whole new level of maudlin.

Never heard of him let alone want to watch his funeral.

You can get fucked Surface, with all due respect.

He was an absolute hero of mine, and one of the best batsmen and thinkers of his time.

Re: Martin Crowe
Couple of things.
Yes he was married to a former Miss Universe.

And yes Russell Crowe was his cousin.
If you ever get to see the movie Gladiator on DVD, have a close look at one of the Coliseum scenes. All the Crowe men are extras in it dressed as Senators.

And as for the relationship between him and Adam Parore. That started as a joke in the New Zealand changing sheds and it was one that Martin himself used to play up too.

In his 431st international innings, de villiers has just gone for his first ever golden duck.

Amazing stat.

Re: Martin Crowe
Fair enough. Obviously I wasn't in NZ so don't know the national mood but can recall there seemed to be rumours based on jealousy. Possibly because he was young and successful & not one of the lads.
Ironically a bit like Michael Clarke who Matty appears to believe is a 'deviant'.

Matty, I was just a bit surprised that the powerful county system would need to recruit older retired Aust batsmen to prop it up.
Flintoff was used as a commentator on Ch10's Big Bash coverage because he was entertaining and fitted their style. What that has to do with Sheffield Shield cricket I don't know.

Would have been poetically fitting if he was Murdered

Or Andrew Flintoff a prime time commentary role.

Re: Martin Crowe
Sven, I've said that to my knowledge, the rumours were started by the tabloid press, not by normal Kiwi males.

Of course I'm happy to criticise the journalists who perpetrated those rumours - like any other tabloid lot, they're cunts, and we're much better off without them.

BUT, you're not really arguing from a particularly strong position here, given you've asked me, and I've told you that it wasn't a commonly-held opinion that he was gay.

Bound to have been the odd boofhead who thought he was, like any country, BUT it was not the prevalent opinion.

Of course, I'm sure you'll argue to the contrary based on an article you've read.

Re: Martin Crowe
Why deviant?
I don't know. He was going to play some grade cricket for his old club I heard get some fitness and then presumably make some easy money in t20.
There was something about Middlesex talking to him at one point about playing for them for part of next summer.
Be a bit like Victoria offering Michael Vaughan a Sheffield Shield contract.

Dr Matt 12:33 Fri Mar 4
Re: Martin Crowe
Speaking of deviant cricketers, how is Michael Clarke's comeback looking?

Sven Roeder 12:18 Fri Mar 4
Re: Martin Crowe
I said the connection with Roebuck was meant to imply he was gay not a 'gay sexual predator'. That was your exaggeration
Crowe spoke of a 'tall poppy culture' in NZ where he was sniped at.
My comment about red blooded Kiwis was an ironic description of boneheaded homophobes who hounded Crowe because he wasn't blokey enough for them .
The twisting to imply I was referring to red blooded KIwis as 'normal' compared to gay men is bizarre.
And part of your continuing campaign never to criticise any NZ person.
Even the ones who treated Martin Crowe terribly.
